Benji
Hi everyone!
My name is Benji and I am a 6 year old GSD who came to SEDR as an unclaimed stray. I have been neutered and microchipped. I am the sweetest and most loving boy who adores everyone I meet (except cats and small furries - I definitely want to chase those!!)
I weigh 32kg.
I am dog friendly, stranger friendly and can live with another dog or as an only dog. I have also met children without any issues.
I am currently in foster in Medway, Kent and am ready to find my furever home.
I do have anal furunculosis which is well managed with medication - this currently costs around £4 per day to control and may be reduced in the future - but should be considered as it will not be able to claimed via insurance given its a pre-existing condition.
He also needs regular ear cleaning and ear drops - which is very easy to do as he is such a perfect patient!
Here is my glowing report from my foster Mum!!
Benji is as close to perfect as you can get and someone will be very lucky to have him. He has been with me almost two months and has not stepped a paw wrong in that time. He is not your typical GSD - I have never heard him bark, and he does not have any guarding or protective characteristics . He is happy chilling out and just wants an easy life. He is left on his own whilst I go to work. I do go home lunchtimes to walk him but he is happy to be left on his own for this time. He does not bark or scratch the doors whilst I'm gone, just mostly sleeps awaiting my return. He is very clean in the house and has no accidents at all and happy to hold it all night. He is very well behaved in the house and is happy relaxing on his bed chewing a bone or laying next to you on the couch for a cuddle. He is an affectionate soul who just likes to be with you and will often pop over for a pat on the head if you haven’t given him any attention for a while.
At bedtime he has the run of downstairs where he can sleep where he wishes. I put a dog bed down in the area I think he would like to sleep in whether it be in the hallway or in the kitchen and he goes down quietly in his bed and I don’t hear a peep out of him until I go down in the morning. He is all round very well behaved in the house and if you tell him no he listens. He has a good appetite and will eat whatever you put in his bowl. That said - due to his anal furunculosis, I have been selective on the food he has. He is currently on a diet of grain free meat mixed with Royal Canine hypoallergenic dry food and he is doing really well on this. He is very gently when taking treats from your hand and if you ask him to sit for a treat he will.
Out on walks he is no bother at all and is happy to go for a long walk or if it’s a short walk that day he is happy with that too and will not pester you to take him out for more walks. I walk him on a long lead this is only due to the fact I am fostering him so do not risk letting him off the lead. He does not pull just potters along having a sniff. I think he would be fine off the lead as he is not the sort of dog to run off but I am unsure if this would be the case if he saw a rabbit, fox or cat etc. He is such a good boy and likes to be near his owner so I think he would have a good recall and be absolutely fine off lead. He travels well in the car. I put him in a dog cage in the back of the car and he jumps in and mostly just lays down during the journey. He does not not bark or dislike being in the travel cage at all.
Benji could quite happily live with another dog or be the only dog in the house. I have several other dogs and he is very friendly towards them. He shows no aggression at all even if other dogs are unfriendly towards him. He would rather back away then get into an altercation. He really just wants a quiet, easy life. He is very respectful of there space if he senses they don’t want him near them. Equally if he senses they are friendly he will try to be their friend and is happy to be around other dogs. I feel he would be fine to live with children too as he is so gentle and chilled out and has no aggressive tendencies what so ever.
I will be very sad to see Benji leave and really wish this was not the case. It is only down to my other GSD not wanting to share his house or owner with him that I have decided it is in the best interest of both dogs that Benji finds another home. This is all the fault of my own dog as Benji has been the perfect housemate. If Benji had not been so well behaved and respectful of my other dog it wouldn’t have worked out for as long as it has. He really does deserve a five star home.
