Hi everyone!
My name is Tobias (my friends call me Toby) and I am a 7 year old spaniel who came to SEDR as an unclaimed stray. I have now been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
I am looking for an adult only home (as I have no history around children) and as the only dog. I am sociable with dogs out and about but will need to be the only dog in the home - and no cats or small furries!!
I am currently in foster and here is what my foster Mum says about me -
He is a great dog - very easy, very sweet and has settled really quickly
He is house trained and can hold his toilet no problem

Here's what my carers say about me....
He has no separation anxiety and settles very quickly when I leave him in the kitchen, whether to go upstairs to bed or if I go out.
Loves his walks - gets very excited and I have found that in the park and on a long lead, he is happiest, he never really goes much more than 3 or 4 metres in front of you as always stops to sniff and there is minimal pulling. On the street he pulls a lot on a short lead so will need training there.
He has good recall, but only if there is nothing to chase or distract him! Every time I say "come back", he always comes to me. When we were in the park he pulled to go in the water after the ducks and would have definitely gone in if he wasn't on the lead!!
He adores toys and play. He could spend all day leaving the ball for you to throw so he can go and collect it. He was a bit intense on this in the first 48 hours but has calmed down somewhat since. I think he just didn't know what to do with himself in the first couple of days.
He seems to associate opening the back door with playtime though and doesn't always go for his toilet when I am letting him out to do so specifically, i.e. after he has eaten, before bedtime etc. So a couple of times I have put the slip lead on him and taken him out and then he does go.
He doesn't guard his toys, as he loves you playing with him, but he definitely has a hierarchy of "high value" toys and his preferred ones (mainly a tennis ball). I just give him tough rope toys and tennis balls and he doesn't chew them / try to eat them! Think soft toys he would pull apart.
He hasn't chewed his bedding whilst he has been here and has really started to know when its relax time, particularly when I am in the room and on the computer, he goes to his bed and rests and in the evening falls asleep on the sofa (after a bit of playtime obviously!).
He loves a belly rub and when he does stop playing, he comes in for a cuddle and then immediately rolls on his back for tummy tickles.
He seems to know words - "sit", "down", "paw", "come", so someone has trained him on these things
Travels really well in the car.
Loves his food and enjoys a treat.
I gave him a chew type treat and he did take it off and try and hide it rather than actually chew it - I think he wouldn't have been happy if I tried to take it off him.
He loves a bath! Most days am rinsing off his paws in the bath as the fields are so muddy round here and every time I take him out, he tries to get back in the bath 🙂
On our walks over the last three days, we have encountered a good number of dogs, maybe 20 or 30 and there was only 1 that he didn't take to and after a sniff, he growled and barked at him. I have no idea why as it was a friendly dog.
He has been fine with people, he does go up to them and say hello, but doesn't really wag his tail if they are a stranger, so I can't work out if he is a bit cautious, even though he does want to say hello.
Honestly, he has been so so good and is a really easy dog who is very sweet. I think a home where they are prepared to take him on a good long walk each day and also play with him in the garden and indoors. Once he has had his exercise and play time, he does rest and is much calmer, sleeps through the night, not a peep out of him and he hasn't barked once!! He was fine also when my neighbours rang the doorbell and was a friendly greeter:)
